Our Visit to Bartolo Mascarello, November 20, 2025
Date of visit: November 20, 2025

A visit to Bartolo Mascarello is always an incredible treat for us. Emmanuel’s knowledge of Barolo, and all of the wines of Langhe for that matter, is unparalleled, and his familiarity with vineyard sites, growing conditions, and vintages spanning decades, is truly extraordinary. Speaking with Emmanuel on these subjects, and hearing his thoughts on this year's growing conditions, as well as his impressions of the current vintages is always an extremely enjoyable, and informative experience.
Tasting notes:
2024 Dolcetto d’Alba: The nose displays beautiful, pronounced, very elegant aromas of cranberries and raspberries. The palate is rustic, yet shows a pleasant delicate side to it, with notes of roses, raspberries, and honey, with small tannins and a persistent finish. A gorgeous example of Dolcetto.
2023 Langhe Freisa: Fruit comes from the Monrobiolo di Bussia vineyard. Aged 9-10 months in wood, then for 1 year in bottle prior to release. Despite 2023 being a relatively hot vintage, Emmanuel mentioned that the vines shut down for a few weeks, which likely explains why we couldn’t detect any heat on the wine. The nose displays pronounced aromas of cherries, black fruits, and flowers. A beautiful blend of fruit and rusticity, with lively acidity and fine tannins which gently glide across the palate, and slowly fade.
2021 Barolo: Beautiful aromas of roses, tar, black fruits, bubblegum, and resin draw you in. The palate is structured with fine but immediate tannins which grip, and persistently linger on, alongside soaring acidity, and flavors of anise, licorice, and red berries. This finishes very clean and very long, and displays impeccable balance. Relatively accessible now, with lengthy cellaring potential.
Thank You
Grazie mille Maria Teresa and Emmanuel for once again welcoming us back, and sharing your incredible wines with us. We hope to see you again soon.
