Date of visit: November 12, 2025

Our trip to Bologna had ended, and we were off to Langhe. What better way to start the trip than a visit to Brovia. A producer who we’ve been following closely for many years now, and whose wines always manage to sweep us off our feet. We seem to fall more and more in love with these wines with each passing vintage, and this is a visit which we really look forward to every year.
We began the tasting with 2020 Antërsè, Brovia’s sparkling wine which debuted last year with the 2019 vintage.

Tasting notes:
2020 Antërsè Metodo Classico Extra Brut: Very fresh and floral on the nose with aromas of flowers and white fruits, as well as citrus notes, and some brioche. The palate opens with a burst of raspberries, strawberries, and pomegranates followed by brioche. Soaring acidity, super fine perlage, and a persistent finish. A truly compelling sparkling wine produced from Langhe fruit; Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Freisa, which spent 50 months on lees prior to being disgorged. This is amazing.
2023 Dolcetto d’Alba Vignavillej: Fruit is sourced from Brovia’s Brea Ca’Mia vineyard in Serralunga d’Alba. Fruit forward aromas of blackberries, cherries, and some licorice. Very fresh and juicy with fine silky tannins.
2023 Barbera d’Alba Sori del Drago: Fruit is sourced mostly from Serralunga d’Alba and for the first time ever a small portion comes from Roddino. Pronounced aromas of cherries, pine, and mushrooms draw you in. Soaring acidity balanced by a fine tannic backbone, and a silky smooth mouthfeel. It displays classic rusticity, but still maintains terrific freshness and purity of fruit, a terrific balance. An outstanding Barbera.
2022 Langhe Nebbiolo: Made 100% in stainless steel. Captivating, alluring aromas of rose jam followed by nuances of tar. The aromatics on this wine alone are enough to leave any Nebbiolo lover speechless. It’s just absolutely incredible, we could sit here smelling this all day. The palate is very overt, and offers immediate enjoyment. It’s very fresh, pure, and very open today. An incredibly beautiful Langhe Nebbiolo.
2021 Barolo: Notes of flowers, red fruits, and roses lead the way on the nose followed by just a very faint hint of tar. The palate is structured and serious, but still maintains a silky mouthfeel, and is still quite approachable, almost shockingly so. Juicy fruit flavors, fine gritty tannins, and fresh acidity all beautifully intertwined. Incredible balance.

2022 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione: Very floral, elegant, refined aromas led by an abundance of roses, followed by juicy strawberries, cherries, raspberries, anise, and some tar all of which carries over to the palate. Incredibly accessible and enjoyable today, with amazing complexity.
2022 Barolo Villero: More masculine, powerful spice aromas upfront followed by anise and licorice, which then give way to red fruits. The palate displays great power and tannins with acidity to perfectly match this. It’s always fascinating to taste this wine following Rocche di Castiglione, because the 2 vineyard sites are located only 200 meters away from each other, yet they’re so incredibly different.
2022 Barolo Garblet Sue: Aromas of anise, licorice, tar, roses, and crushed red berries. A really beautiful nose. The palate is structured, and incredibly well balanced, with a silky mouthfeel and structured tannins which almost sneak up on you on the finish.
2022 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia: Raspberries lead the way on the nose, followed by notes of tar, anise, licorice, and cooked strawberries all of which carry over to the palate. Youthful aggressive tannic bite, but in a very classical sense, typical of young Barolo from Brea Vigna Ca' Mia which we welcome. It’s rich, broad, and structured, and shows great cellaring potential.
2021 Barolo Brea Vigna Ca' Mia: Aromas of anise, leather, mushrooms, roses, and tar. The palate displays impeccable balance, and has a very pleasant almost refreshing-like quality to it. It’s deeper and more powerful compared to the 22’, with bracing tannins, and will need time to fully develop and show its best. However, this will be well worth the wait. This is yet another stunning Barolo from Brovia, which will age beautifully for many many years to come.
Thank You
