Visiting Cascina Fontana is always a highlight. This small but mighty estate in Perno consistently turns out some of the most incredible wines in all of Langhe. Tasting with Mario is always something we look forward to.

Tasting notes:
2024 Dolcetto d’Alba: Pleasantly rustic notes of beets, red fruits, and plums on the nose, which carries over to the palate. Soft, smooth tannins which leaves your mouth watering, and coming back for more.
2023 Barbera d’Alba: Stewed red fruits, cherries, and a faint hint of tar rise from the glass and draw you in. The palate is energetic, juicy, and delivers notes of cacao nibs, cherries, cooked berries, and some licorice, alongside soaring acidity. A beautiful Barbera.
2023 Langhe Nebbiolo: Pronounced, well defined, and very pretty aromas of blackberries, raspberries, fresh cherries, jarred amarena cherries, and cherry blossom, all of which carries over to the palate, which is smooth, but structured, with pleasant acidity.

2021 Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto: No Barolo classico was produced for the 21’ vintage due to frost. Temperatures went down to 0 degrees celsius for two nights in a row. As a result only Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto, and Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba were produced.
Rustic aromas of tar, roses, cacao, and some licorice and wet leaves, with notes of licorice and cherries on the palate, alongside approachable, persistent tannins. Impressive structure, energetic acidity, excellent purity of fruit, and a persistent finish. A bit tightly wound at the moment, will need maybe 7 or 8 years to really blossom, and it will definitely be worth the wait. An outstanding Barolo.
2024 Langhe Nebbiolo (from barrel): Notes of beets and vegetal notes, which with time in the glass turn to raspberries, cherry blossom, and strawberries. The palate delivers cherries, licorice, and cherry blossom. Very floral and pretty, and delicately structured. We anxiously look forward to this wine's release once bottled.
Thank You
